CLUB BOATS
The Pipers present Members with a great opportunity for day sailing at minimum
cost. It is a strong and safe design of boat, and the Club boats are maintained
to a high standard to ensure both safety and competitive racing.
Six Piper Class( Dodo, Grace, Mona, Rosanne, Peter Piper and Schwarze Lena) and one International Etchells (Bullet) will be in the water at the end
of April. They are available for use, both racing and cruising, by Members and Cadets
who have passed the appropriate tests, and on payment of a session charge, or a
season charge as appropriate.
Racing sails are kept up to date and replaced on a regular basis e.g. mainsails 2007,spinnakers 2004, genoas 2003. Cruising/training sails are inspected
annually and repaired or replaced with ex racing sails. Facilities exist to reef the mainsails on the Pipers so that they can be sailed comfortably in any weather.
The International Etchells is a One Design racing yacht that should appeal
to the more experienced or adventurous helmsman for sailing or racing. The
Club's Etchells is available for Tuesday and Wednesday evening 'Handicap' racing.
However only helmspersons authorised in accordance with Rule 5 of the Club Boat
Regulations are permitted to helm a Club Etchells.
All of the Club boats give Members the opportunity to participate in One Design
racing. An individual boat may be booked for a particular race, or at the
discretion of the Committee, for all races in a series, whether organised by
the Club or by any other Clyde club. The Piper Class has many trophies awarded
for individual races or series of races and the Club too has a number of trophies
that are awarded for the best Club Boat performance in some of these races.
For general care and maintenance it is requested that Members using Club Boats
observe the following:
- No sails shall be left on board a Club Boat. Sails shall be returned to
the designated sail locker at the end of each session.
- Each sail shall be folded or rolled in the correct manner and put into
its clearly marked bag.
- Racing sails shall be used only for competitive sailing events.
- Boats to be left in a tidy and seamanlike manner with all gear stowed
away and the bilges dry.
- Defects arising to be recorded in the Club Boat Book when the boat
is signed off at the end of a session.
- The boats are checked weekly for damage and missing equipment. To avoid
comeback helmspersons should ensure that these requirements are followed.
For more information about the boats and their use, please contact
the Convener or the Honorary Secretary.
