Welcome!
We have received your registration form and want to welcome you to our Discover Sailing programme.
Please print this page or save it for future reference.
If you are new to Discover Sailing we offer two free on-the-water sessions to give sailing and our club a try. After your two free sessions we offer you a 50% discount on this season’s club membership should you wish to continue sailing with us.
How Discover Sailing works
- Once registered you are added to our group email list and will receive any information sent out to Discover Sailing sailors.
- Once a week between May and Sept we send out an ‘Invitation to Sail’ email that tells you what the session dates are for that week.
- Friday evening sessions are open to all sailors of any ability level including beginners.
- Wednesday evening sessions are racing evenings and require that you understand how to sail and do not require instructions on sailing. You do not need to be experienced in racing to join. This evening is intended to be an introduction to racing for sailors wanting a bit more.
- If you wish to participate in the weekly session you reply to the email following the email instructions.
- Later in the week we issue a ‘Sailing Plan’ email which will tell you if you have a sailing spot or if you are on the waiting list. If you have a sailing position you will see your boat and helm assignment on this email.
- Come to the club at the time stated on the Sailing plan and sign-in to Discover Sailing. Someone at the club will help you find your assigned boat and helm. If you need to borrow a life jacket from the club please bring £5 cash for the life jacket donation. This fee goes directly to servicing the life jackets each year.
- Your helm will give you an onshore safety briefing.
- You and your helm and crew will board the launch that takes you out to your sailing vessel for the evening.
- Your helm will help you and instruct you on safety and how to sail.
- We sail until just before sunset.
- After sailing we meet at the bar for a debrief, drinks, and fun.
Off-season ______________
- In the off-season when we are not out sailing we offer two programmes.
- Boat maintenance takes place on Saturday mornings and will teach you how to maintain a boat.
- Winter theory talks are held once a month that give you insightful information into sailing theory.
